10 Things Your Poop Says About Your Health (13 Pics)

It is very important for us to track the state of our health. That is how we can react in time before something minor becomes an impossible/ or very difficult problem to solve. There are multiple ways to do that, and there is no right or wrong way to do it. We all basically listen to our body, and if it emits some strange signals, it is the right time to react.

You should pay close attention to two things when analyzing your stool. You should look for the changes in color and the shape.

The normal color of poop is brown (duh). Sometimes the color changes without any obvious reason, and that should be a sign of a problem. And this is what you need to look for.

White

If your poop starts changing its color to white, gray, or clay that means that you lack bile. That means that you probably have some problem with your liver and/ or gallbladder. The white mucus on a brown stool may be a sign of Crohn’s disease.

Green

When your poop starts changing to green, then you are either eating tons of vegetables or it might mean that everything went through your digestive tract too quickly.

Yellow

If your poop becomes yellow that could mean that you ate too many carrots, have blocked bile ducts, or a poor fat absorption. Or it could mean that there is some problem with your pancreas so there aren’t enough enzymes.

Black

If your stool becomes black, you could cause that with the use of aspirin, ibuprofen or some iron supplements. However, it can also mean that there is some internal bleeding in your intestines. But don’t panic right away because there is a great chance that you caused that color with the food you are eating.

Red

A red stool is most commonly caused by your diet. But if it is not the food, then it is blood. And blood in your stool definitely means that there is something terribly wrong. You should contact your doctor and check for hemorrhoids, ulcerative colitis, and even… yeah, cancer.

Shape

The shape of your poop can also tell you something about your health.

Small, Solid Lumps

If your poop is small and in a shape of lumps like nuts or goat feces, that means that you are suffering from constipation. However, that only means that you need more fiber.

Large and Lumpy

If your poop is big and lumpy, that is also a sign of constipation. You need to increase the level of your physical activity. Eat more fruits and vegetables, and work out more.

Sausage-Shaped

If your poop looks like a sausage then it means that you are healthy and that there is nothing wrong with you.

Diarrhea

This is the most common problem. If that is the case, you are having some kind of a problem. You can wait and see what happens next, but if that doesn’t work, you will have to see a doctor.

If your poop looks like a fluffy piece with ragged edges, that is a mild case of diarrhea. That is not a problem. It only means that you are eating too much fiber.
