You have probably heard some things about Abby and Brittany Hensel, the world’s most famous conjoined twins. Their lives have been in the center of media attention for quite some time now and the way the two of them function is incredible! Here are 12 interesting facts you (probably) didn’t know about Abby and Brittany Hensel.
They Both Share One Body (Duh…)
This is an obvious detail but did you know that they have separate organs like heart, lungs, stomach, spine, and spinal cord. They both learned to control their side of the body and they function as one.
The Coordination Was Very Difficult at First, But Practice Makes Perfect!
Maybe you didn’t know that these two head to learn to move their pair of separate limbs and to coordinate the movement of both sides of the body. That was very difficult, but in time, they developed their own style of walk. Brittany like to walk on her tiptoes.
Their Parents Didn’t Want to Separate Them
Surgery to separate conjoined twins may range from very easy to very risky and difficult. That depends on the point of attachment and the internal parts that are shared. Most cases are extremely risky and even life-threatening. The surgery often results in the death of one or both of the twins. That was the case with these two.
That is why their parents decided to decline that option. They have never regretted.
There is a Documentary About Them
TLC made a documentary about these two as soon as they turned 16. They also made a TV show called the “Abby and Brittany Show”.
Twins Have Learned Some Complex Movements and Actions
It seems like there are no limits for these two. They are very dedicated to their goals and with a lot of practice, they can now walk, swim, ride a bicycle, and even drive a car! On the photo below, you can see their second driving test in which Abby had to take the controls on the right and Brittany had to take the controls on the left. So yeah, they had to take separate tests.
They are Twins, and They Have the Same Body, But They are Not the Same Person!
These twins have lived the same life, they share same memories, and in spite all that, they have very different personalities. Just look at their necklace. The right part is different from the left part. Abby likes maths while Brittany loves writing.
Both Girls Graduated From University
One of those most interesting things is that both twins graduated from Bethel University in 2012. The learning process must have been very hard for them considering their different personalities and different interests.
What Are Their Plans For The Future?
In the interview, they gave to the Discovery Channel, the twins said that they would like to get married someday and to have kids.
They Hate When People Stare At Them
These two are sure about one thing – they hate when strangers want to take photos with them and when they stare at them. They are only humans!
They are Both Interested in Sports
They are simply obsessed with volleyball, swimming, rowing, and bowling!
They are Two Separate Persons!
Twins are sharing the same body, but that (strangely) doesn’t mean that they are the same person. When one of them catches a cold, the other one doesn’t. You see, Abby has suffered from pneumonia twice, and Brittany hasn’t had it even once!
They Both Work As Teachers
The most interesting thing about these two is that they are both working as teachers. They love their jobs and they are both teaching math. While one of them is teaching and writing, the other one tries to answer as many questions as she can.
